18 Things To Do On Valentines Day If You're Single

I'm not a Valentines Day kind of girl, which may be due to the fact that I don't have a Valentine, but also because I believe in showing people you love them every day of the year, not just on the 14th of Feb. However, it is a wonderful time which allows us to take time out of our busy schedules and express our love and gratitude for the people in our lives whom we care about.
Valentines Day doesn't isn't just for people in lovey-dovey relationships, its also more than socially acceptable to show your appreciation for friends and family members too because, after all, its simply a day dedicated to celebrating love and love comes in many different beautiful forms. That being said, we do tend to associate le day of le Valentine with loved up couples, buying each other roses, going out for romantic meals and taking walks along the beach at sunset, so, if you (like me) are very much single this Valentines Day and are looking for things to do besides stalking cute couples on Instagram, I've got you covered. Here's a list of activities you can be getting up to in your single life whilst the rest of the world proclaims their love for their significant other.

1) Watch hilarious movies

If you aren't allowed to laugh at ridiculous comedies on Valentines Day, a day when everyone is kissing and cuddling their partners and you're not, then whhen are you? Laugh the pain away, pals.

2) Eat eat eat

I'm a firm believer in the fact that pizza solves everything, Food is for life, not just for Valentines Day but, honestly, just stuff your face, you deserve it.

3) Celebrate self love

Like I said, Valentines Day is all about one thing and one thing only - LOVE! So, why not celebrate yourself? We all deserve to feel content within ourselves and loving who you are is nothing to be ashamed of - far from it. We live in a world where self love is frowned upon and, therefore, difficult to achieve so the annual day of love seems like the perfect opportunity to try and be a little bit nicer to oneself, right? You don't need other people to remind you that you are worthy of love so appreciate yourself in whatever way pleases you
.
4) Celebrate your pet

There's no rulebook that states you're strictly only allowed to love humans on Valentines Day so give your cat a cuddle, feed your goldfish extra food, buy your rabbit a new toy or take your dog for a walk. Remind the animals in your life that you care for them just as much as people in relationships care for one another.

5) Hang out with your friends

Celebrate GALENTINES DAY! (And whatever the male equivalent is called). Get your pals together, eat, have a sleepover, go to the cinema, party, do whatever you like. It'll be far more fun than using up thirteen boxes of tissues watching The Notebook. Plus, if they're single, you can all be single and alone on V Day together.

6) Treat your Mum or Dad

Take some time this Valentines Day to show your parents how much you appreciate them, as we often either forget or don't get chance. Take them somewhere nice or just go round to their house for a cuppa and a catch up. It's the little things.

8) Read

It isn't hard to full immerse yourself in a book and, before you know it, the day will be over. Why not read the day away? If you're a total bookworm, surely a full day of reading sounds like Heaven?

9) Sleep

Or, better still, sleep the day away! That way, you'll be blissfully unaware of the fact that everyone else on the planet is celebrating Valentines Day and can spend the day dreaming about being in a relationship with your favouite celebrity. Valentines Day technically didn't exist if you weren't awake to celebrate it.

10) Spend the day with your siblings

I'm an only child but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that, most of the time, those of us with siblings don't really show them how much we care because we're either fighting with them or we're just too proud and don't want to make the first move. So, this 14th Feb, spend some quality bonding time with your brothers and sisters!

11) Go to the gym

Sweat the misery away. Get your bum down to the gym, do some squats, lift some weights, run on a treadmill, recreate Ariana Grande's Side To Side music video on the bike, I don't know, do whatever you gym people do at the gym.

12) Go on a spontaneous trip

What's one place you've always wanted to travel to? What are you waiting for? Valentines is as good a time as any! Book a flight, get in a taxi, drive, cycle, I don't know, just go somewhere fancy and make some memories.

13) Make a list of all the reasons why being single is great

I'll start you off: Number one: you don't have to splash out on gifts and so can buy yourself as much food as you want.

14) Go out for dinner to a restaurant

Why should restaurants be exclusive to couples on Valentines Day? Get dressed up, get yourself out of the house and go and eat your body weight in posh food at your favourite restaurant. Plus, its a chance to take some photos of your well-presented food for Instagram.

15) Have a dance party around your kitchen

Make yourself a banging playlist consisting of 90s pop songs, grab a hairbrush and dance around your kitchen like nobody's watching. If you throw some serious shapes, it basically counts as exercise - I speak from experience.

16) Have a spa day

Pamper yourself! Face masks, cucumbers on your eyes, paint your nails, fluffy dressing gowns, smelly body lotions and vibrant bath bombs - the works! Do whatever makes you feel most relaxed on a day when everybody in a relationship is stressing over whether or not they've bought their partner the right box of chocolates.

17) Just treat it like any other day

Go to work, grab some lunch, see your pals, take your dog for a walk, carry out your daily routine because, at the end of the day, Valentines Day is no different from any other twenty four hours.

18) Wallow in self pity

Or, just sit at home alone in bed and feel sad about the fact that you're single (again) on Valentines Day - whatever floats your boat!

So, what will you be doing this Valentines Day? <3

Love, Emily :) xx
